Betty Vera, Instructor
Black, white, grays, browns, and beiges are anything but neutral when used skillfully – providing design effects ranging from intense drama to soft mood. Neutrals also emphasize texture and set off other colors beautifully. This class concentrates on combining light and dark tones effectively using warm and cool neutrals, exploring the textural range of different yarns and weaves, and enhancing the graphic potential of woven design.
Each warp is threaded differently so that everyone can weave round-robin and take home a notebook with swatches of each fabric woven in class. Participants receive warping and threading instructions in advance so they can arrive ready to weave; they also bring their personal weaving tools and a few weft yarns. The materials fee covers all notebook supplies, handouts, and a wide range of weft yarns to weave with.
A word from Betty about her workshops:
The workshops I teach have evolved from my desire to share what I have learned about color and structure in developing my own fiber art. These basic tools are applicable to functional as well as nonfunctional work in fiber.
My classes are suitable for all skill levels, from beginner to advanced. Weaving workshop participants must be able to warp a harness loom and weave on it independently. My workshops are designed to allow everyone to learn and progress at their own pace and skill level.
