The winner of the Betty and Clay Smith Award for 2020 is Kennedi Horn.
Kennedi was selected by Jo-Marie Karst, University of North Georgia Lecturer in the Textiles Department. Jo-Marie writes:
When presented with the responsibility of choosing the best student I considered several parameters and qualities to be important.
- Eagerness to learn all aspects of weaving.
- Endeavor to go beyond the requirements of an assignment.
- Generosity through helping other students learn.
- Joy expressed at the completion of as well as the beginning of a new weave structure.
- A desire to continue gaining knowledge of weaving professionally after graduation.
Keneddi Horn exhibits all these wonderful traits as well as many more. My choice was confirmed by Dr. Pamela Sachant, Department Head, Visual Arts, UNG. Additionally, Keneddi earned an Associate of Science Degree before seeking a BA in Studio Art.
Her studio focus is in weaving as well as ceramics and she has shown a deep interest in Appalachian Studies by completing three classes in that area. Before declaring I would like to share her bio with you, with her permission, to give you insight into her future goals.
The weaving studio is honored to have Keneddi as a student. She is genuinely deserving of being selected as the recipient of the Chattahoochee Handweaver’s Guild “Betty and Clay Smith Award”.
