Chattahoochee Handweavers Guild

The mission of the Chattahoochee Handweavers Guild is to promote and preserve weaving and other fiber related arts.
We do this through education, programs and outreach to the community.

Our next guild meeting is October 17, 10:30am – Online

In order to join the meeting you will need a link that will be provided in the next Fiber Focus newsletter. In order to prevent “zoom-bombing” we are not publishing the link to the meeting here. If you are not currently a member of CHG, but would like to attend the meeting, please send a message to our Membership Chair membership@chgweavers.org , tell us a little bit about yourself and we will forward you a link to the program.

Come with Lynne as she takes you on a journey to India where you can discover some of the amazing sights while hearing about the history of silk and silk weaving in India.

Make sure to get your membership up-to-date and look for an email invitation soon.

Exploring my new loom – 32 shaft Louet Megado Compu-dobby

I got a new loom, one I have been waiting for since Convergence 2018. I've built it and have woven my first piece, a ruana with no sewing. Admittedly, this was about the simplest thing I have made at this point and I only used 10 of the 32 shafts. It did give me a...

Weaving with Mohair? 2 words…Cowboy Magic!

I'm on a mission, a mission from the fiber gods (and maybe my husband): I'm going to weave my stash - my knitting stash that is. After finishing a big double weave blanket I moved on to the finer things in my decades old yarn stash - a mohair and silk blend from...

THIS is why you join a guild…

After the meeting last month I decided to put the warp on my loom and get threading in anticipation of the Fall class on double weave. Several of us come to Room 1 on the weekends to get some weaving done (its fun, just make sure to check the calendar for weekend...

upcoming events

a message from our president

Welcome to Chattahoochee Handweavers Guild, a vibrant organization dedicated to fostering and supporting the love of weaving and other related fiber arts. We offer meetings with fiber related programs, classes and workshops for beginners through advanced skill levels, outreach events in Atlanta and surrounding communities, and exhibits.

The recent pandemic has thrown us all a curve ball by preventing in person meetings and classes throughout the spring and into the summer, but the Chattahoochee Handweavers Guild is stepping up to the challenge. We have made some changes to ensure we remain active and relevant during these uncertain times, some of which will be temporary and some of which will become additional features of the fabric of our guild life.

Weekly fiber related demonstrations via Zoom began in May 2020 and will continue each Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. through at least mid-July. We’ll consider continuing past that time frame if the sessions remain popular and well attended. We’ve also modified our biannual Members’ Show to be an online exhibit that we are calling Creative Confinement: Online Fiber Show. This members’ show with a twist will still provide CHG members the opportunity to show their work and compete for prizes in five categories but it will all be shown online. We’ll also have an area to display the works of guild members from neighboring guilds, but those entries won’t be eligible to win CHG awards. Check our website for additional information and a link to register for the show.

We are closely following the reopening plans of the City of Dunwoody and we hope to resume normal face-to-face operations by September.

Our meetings are open to visitors and we hope you’ll drop in and check us out. Watch our online calendar to find out when and where the next meeting will take place.
