Description
Weaving Wonderful Hand Towels
Hand towels are the perfect project: they are practical, giftable, and a great way to push your skills. In this class, we’ll move beyond the basics by using a single, versatile draft to create a series of 4–6 towels that look entirely different from one another.
We will focus on the fundamentals that define a well-made textile, teaching you how to master clean selvages and professional, easy-to-hem finishes that hold up to years of use. Whether you are a newer weaver looking for a solid foundation or a more experienced weaver wanting to refine your production techniques, you will walk away with a collection of beautiful, functional heirlooms. Come ready to explore how much variety you can get from one design.
Class Structure
The first day of class will be dedicated to an in-depth discussion and examination of both sampler options. Following this, you will wind your warp independently. The majority of the class time will then be dedicated to weaving your chosen sampler.
Material Selection
Students should consider working with 8/2 yarn for this class. Utilizing a hand-dyed warp can add an exciting and dynamic element to your project, allowing for vibrant layer combinations.
Equipment
The class will utilize a mix of Wolf Series looms and donated looms. If you plan to weave a project wider than 20 inches, please contact the instructor before registering to ensure suitable loom availability. The guild provides all other necessary weaving equipment, including floor looms, shuttles, and various weaving tools.
