Description

This will be a process-based class that will teach participants how to utilize what is commonly referred to as “Theo Moorman Technique.” This technique requires tie-down warp and supplemental weft threads to create lines, shapes, and textures within the weaving. The instructor will work with participants to develop drafts and designs from an image of the participants choosing.  Weaving experience will be beneficial to participants, however, motivated beginners are more than welcome.

The Theo Moorman technique is a way of adding extra threads or materials on top of a woven cloth to create images, patterns, or textures.

You start by weaving a normal, stable cloth structure—usually plain weave. At the same time, you add a second set of threads that sit mostly on the surface of the fabric rather than becoming part of the main structure. Because they are only lightly tied into the cloth, they create floating shapes, lines, or blocks of color on the surface.

Prerequisite:  None.  Beginners welcome.
