Description
This 2-day class will focus on basic tapestry techniques, design, & use of yarns. This class is suitable for beginners. If you have done some tapestry before, come and refresh your skills. We will warp Hummingbird tapestry looms using combs to manage our sett. Saturday afternoon, moving into Sunday, we will learn and practice a few basic techniques and plan a simple composition before cutting off.
Use of the Guild’s Hummingbird Tapestry looms is included with the class.
A benefit of being a member of the Chattahoochee Handweavers Guild is the option of renting some of our looms. The Hummingbird looms rent for $25 per month. Please contact our Properties Chair for more information.
Student requirements:
- Note taking materials. We will reference other tapestry instruction books as we work. (Unless of course, Jean is going to provide a handout).
- Yarn:12/6 Cotton seine twine will be provided by the instructor. For weft yarns we will use a variety of yarns. Bring some of your own wool yarns or thrums.
- Please arrange to have Kirsten Glasbrook’s book Tapestry Weaving on hand if you are a beginner.
