Description
Come spend a day exploring the beauty of nature printing and the magic of an Indigo dye vat. We will use summer leaves and flowers to make direct contact imprints to a silk scarf. To transfer the tannins and color from the flowers and leaves to the silk and wool scarf, the scarves will need about 4 hours in a steam bath. While we are waiting, we will explore shibori style indigo vat dying.
Pack a lunch or go out; we will break for lunch once we get our silk scarves into the steam pot (could be more of a brunch) . after our meal, we will work with shibori techniques. Students will have 4 cotton bandanas for practicing folds and dips. Your final project will be a Bamboo rayon and silk scarf. You will go home with lots of excellent gifts for yourself or someone else. Students may bring other cellulose or protein fiber items to put into the indigo vat after their classmates have finished their project.
