Kathy Spoering
Bio:
I have been designing and weaving tapestries for over 40 years. The tapestries are reflective of and influenced by events in my own life, yet also have found them reflect the lives of viewers, weaving us together through the images. I feel that connection as I weave.
Artist Statement:
As with everyone, I am many things. I am a musician, playing guitar and singing with other musicians. I am an avid birdwatcher and lover of Nature. And I am a tapestry weaver, in addition to many other things. I love it when inspiration crosses the lines of the roles I live. While at the Great Sand Dunes National Park, a mountain bluebird came and sat on a post very near me and began to sing. I had just learned a song about a bluebird ‘singing me a song’ so began singing with the bird. We sang together through most of the song, and the experience touched me and inspired me to transform it into tapestry. This tapestry always brings that experience to life.
